Profile photos: part of your online presence

LinkedIn has been an essential professional network for several years. It is from this site that you will meet a future employer, a prospect, or a client.
The first time you come into contact with other members of the network, it is your profile picture that will make your interlocutor want to find out about you. In our society increasingly pressed for time, a few seconds are enough to establish professional relationships. One glance at your presentation page and network members should feel the urge to enquire about your account or even contact you. On the internet or in everyday life, appearance dictates contact. On a social network with millions of users, your profile picture is the first eye contact you will make with potential recruiters or collaborators.
Anonymity is, therefore, a serious mistake on LinkedIn. Without a portrait, your profile is in no way attractive. So network members don’t take the time to get to know you and these are great opportunities that you might be missing out on.

As this is a professional network, a second mistake would be to post an inappropriate photo: you do not choose your LinkedIn profile photo as you choose that of Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Indeed, the pose, the quality of the image, and the message it sends must be at the same time professional, attractive and faithful to who you are while respecting the codes of your profession. Before posting your presentation image, remember that it is your professional reputation that is at stake on this social network. Whether we like it or not, it is on the visual aspect that a person is judged at first glance. More importantly, than shared content, your image should catch the eye of headhunters and customers. If you already have a job, your entire business will be judged by your profile picture. To afford a photo session with a corporate photographer is to give yourself the means to have an effective online presence.

The posture of your body, the orientation of your shoulders, your mouth, your hair, and your gaze should be both attractive and professional. In one snapshot, your whole attitude should appeal to other users. So forget about sunglasses, messy hair, or sensual poses.

In addition to these key elements, the image itself must be of high quality. Framing, lighting, and sharpness are therefore as important as your smile. Posting a pixelated photo, selfie, or blurry image will show some carelessness. Recruiters and clients will then be reluctant to trust you and will not take the time to read your posts.
